It wasn't easy this morning to wake up and get out of bed. Because of our morning off roading the day before, I felt like I fell down the stairs. A really high one. From all the way up to all the way down. About three time....
Maybe you'll understand how I feel, assuming that you know how it feels to fall down a stairs and feel the day after.
The weather was gorgeous though!! Cloudy, but because of that not so terribly hot and really good to deal with. We left right after breakfast towards Flagstaff, where there would be a big parade through the old town. We could park our car reasonably close to all the happenings and we saw more than an hour all kinds of vehicels pass by. Lots of flags, kids and dressed up vehicels and people bounching around them. It was very joyfull.
Yummm.
At the end of the parade there was a police car and a road sweeper and within the shorterst time the road was empty and clean again, all the people gone and you wouldn't know there was just a party going on. It did help that it started to rain though. At the park there was a little fair going on, where we spend a little time too, but once it started to pour down really hard it was time to get to the car again.
We had to go back to the Bootbarn, where we bought some jeans for Henk. This morning we found out that one of them was a different cut than the others and that it didn't fit. So, we exchanged it for a good one and crossed the street to lunch at the IHOP!!! YummmmmY
After this great lunch we headed back to Sedona, because the temperatures were dropping like crazy in Flagstaff, just a mear 58 degrees! Just two miles down the road is was a good 68 and half way to Sedona an oldfashioned 89 degrees again! Before we got on the road to Sedona, we were stopped by people of the Sherrif's office, warning us for the danger of Flash Floods. That's why the parkinglots and camping sites along the road were closed! Even the more broader roadsides were shielded with signs to not stop there. Because of the big forest fire here in april all the trees are gone and the grounds can flush away due to heavy rains and cause landslides.
Back in Sedona we first went back to our motel, because half way to here I got a nasty belly ache. I won't go into detail, just say I could have a good rest in the bathroom...
We did drive down to Oak Creek Village to get to Cathedral Rock from there and maybe reach the vortex there. Unfortunatly it turned out to be a long and steep walk up the hill again, so without results we went back and halfway out I got stomache again so hurried back to the motel agian. We staid there after another "bathroom break". I laid down for a small nap, but after taking a painkiller I fell in a deep sleep.....
Henk woke me up at 6 ;45 pm!!! It became very dark in the mean time, thick black clouds were gadering above Sedona and as far as we could see. Our plan to drive to Cottonwood was cancelled and we decided to go the the lasershow in Sedona. When we got there though the friendly man at the gate told us that the lasershow "wasn't cancelled yet". Still we decided to leave any way when it started to pour down on us and the lightning and thunder started. I would really like to have a great evening, but not in the wet grass while a thunderstorm is forming over us....
We picked up our "dinner" at the Mac and ate on our mini-porch.
|Sedona by night // Sedona in het donker|
|Sedona by night with lightning! // Sedona met nachtelijk onweer!!|
Roe planned a whole afternoon for us and I think we get to see a lot of beautiful things here in our last full day in the states.
