We hebben een heerlijke dag gehad! Wel veel kilometers gemaakt, maar de route was wonderschoon en zeer de moeite waard en bovenal; Heerlijk Weer!!!We've had a wonderful day!! We made a lot of miles, but the route was so breathtakingly beautiful and worth while and above all; Wonderful Weather!
Despite the fact we were up early today, we didn't leave Laramie untill 9.30 pm. During breakfast we were approached by a young Navajo native who wanted to know all about us and where we were heading. He kept on pushing us to go with him to Monument Valley so he could give us a tour on horseback through the park there and show us all the things other tourists never see... He just wouln't understand that we had a full itinerary allready and we didn't want to go with him and change our plans. At that moment it was quite irritating, but in retrospect is was a bit funny too. He just wanted to make some money I guess.
After some grocery shopping and a photo-moment at the town's place sign of Laramie - we drive a Dodge Ram Laramie and it was actually the only reason I wanted to go here - we finally hit the road for real. Oh dear, the views we saw today!! Even when I show you the pictures here, it's nothing compared to the "life view" and just can't be captured on film or picture. From empty plains to the rocky slopes of mountains of 600 miljon years old (there are signs all over, that's why I know that) and roaring rivers to dried up creeks; it can all change in a few minutes time.
At 5 pm we arrived in Cody, a lovely town about 45 miles outside of Yellowstone Park, where we'll be heading tomorrow. It has been wonderful weather all day, about 82 degrees, so perfect for me. The considerable winds made it even better, although I did notice just now I had a bit of a sunburn. You can't feel it happening, can you?!
During checking in at the hotel I heard there would be a rodeo in town this evening. Thát was something we had to see of course! First we had a good diner and walked around town for a while first. There was a "shoot out" in town too, sort of a little play with lots of laughter and noisy bangs. It was so wrong, it was funny again.
The rodeo was soo extremely funny and joyfull and exciting and engaging and so much more fun than I thought it would be. It's so brillant the things these people and especially the horses can do! I think I liked the barrel races the most of all. It was so exiting and especially the young girls made a big impression on me. Unfortunatly the two best races were the two I didn't film and all the pictures are blurry due to the movements of course.... Too busy with watching and shivering from the cold. It was getting colder and windier by the minute and together with my tiredness that didn't help with keeping my hands steady anymore.
Tomorrow we will go to Yellowstone Park!! Yesterday we came to talk to a nice man in our hotel in Laramie and he used to be a tourbusgide in Yellowstone. We got so many good tips from him! Especially about where we have the best chanches to see wildlife and the things we really shouldn't miss.
Also Roe, a dear blog-friend of mine from Phoenix AZ who saw a lot of the US, gave us lots of tips and funny enough they were all the same tips that nice man from Laramie gave us. I am very hopefull therefore to again have a good chance to see bears this time. But even if we don't see any bears, I know the rest will be very beautiful and impressive of itself too, I'm sure of it!
I hope I can get online when we're there, but I'm not really sure. If I don't place a post here tomorrow and the day after that, you'll know why that is and that there's nothing wrong, just no wifi. I will write a journal and will place it when I can get online again.
