In the beginning of the week I told here I am going to make a quilt in commision for a friend of my sister. After sorting the clothes to see what I can use and contemplating different layouts, I'm safe to say we have a design we're both happy with. Eight stars, a letter block and the rest are all composed blocks of different clothes and colors. Crazy quilt blocks and simple squares. Mrs.M. (her alias here) is satisfied with this design, so the work can start.
Today I took apart all the blouses I'm going to use for the starblocks. Took off all the buttons and get ripping... Well, after half an hour with my seamripper I was really tired of that, so I took out the scissors. Oy, that's a hard thing to do, but it has to be done. They all will get a lovely second life in a comforting quilt, so the reason is a good one. With the blouses it was hard to do, but there are also two leather vests and a beautiful jacket that you can only get by winning it!! Thát's going to be réálly hard to do....
|Heel zwaar hoor, dit werk..... ;-) // Very hard work..... ;-)|
For the letter block in the middle I will use two silk ties. First I will reinforce the silk with a fusable webbing, to prevent stretching and deforming. Than I can paperpiece the block. Than I will already quilt it, befóre I will put it in the whole quilt, because otherwise the silk won't hold up next to the heavier fabrics.
The four plain (ocher) blocks will be treated the same way. These will get, on Mrs.M.'s request, a beautiful celtic quilt design. I'll have to show her a few design yet, so she can pick one.
|Cees slaapt er niet minder om hoor!|
Cees doesn't miss a minute of sleep over this!
So, this is what I will be working on - together with the quilt for my sister - for now. I will try to devide my attention between the two quilts, so I'll have them ready for sandwiching at the same time. That's a job for my quilt frame, which will take up all the back room and I need an extra pair of hands with. But it will take a while before I can start thát part.....
